Afternoon picnic and swimming at Manjuyod Sand Bar, Bais

So just after checking out the cavorting cetaceans (dolphins, that is), out trusty pumpboat made its way around to Manjuyod Sand Bar.  The sand bar is basically fairly major – 7 kilometers extensive at minimal tide and nearly 600 hectares in location.  We arrived when the tide was continue to heading out, so the great white sand wasn’t higher than drinking water.  Still, the skipper anchored the boat’s bow suitable over the shallow drinking water, letting us float ideal above the crystal very clear sandy base.  My fellow shipmates were being all a bit hungry by this stage, and it was made a decision that the picnic feast was to start.  The paper masking was pulled from the lechon baboy (barbequed piggie), the pancit, siomai, rice, cakes, fruit salad, and other dishes have been uncovered, and every person dived appropriate in.  I was sweating like the climate-maladjusted American that I am and not much too hungry, so I chose to adjust into my bathing go well with and dive in the h2o.

Ahhhhhhh……. heaven.  The drinking water was pretty, clean, and the sand beneath my feet was butter smooth.  I didn’t have much sunscreen on, so I strategically maneuvered myself along with the banca to stay in the shade although all people else was feeding on.  I do this factor the place I scoop up drinking water in my hands and can squirt it like a squirt gun, so I amused some of the youngsters during lunch by sniping them from the shallows.  They discover this basically hilarious and it was a superior way to connect considering the fact that I do not know bisaya (the neighborhood Cebuano dialect).

Still not small tide but the sandbar is below there somewhere…….

Write-up-picnic piggie……

After lunch, my shipmates turned out into the shallow drinking water in their bathing costumes whilst the crew retired to the stern to consume their very own lunch and eat about 5 bottles of low-cost neighborhood brandy.  Woo-hoo!  Frisbees ended up quickly traveling in excess of the drinking water and the young ones have been splashing all around less than their parent’s near supervision and every person was having a very good time.  A selection of people on the boat couldn’t specifically swim, so the shallow drinking water around the sandbar was suitable for some very hot climate participate in.  And it was very hot – Very hot.  Summer months was in total swing and the solar was beating down with out mercy.  I slathered on additional sunscreen and sooner or later put on my jungle hat, but even then, it was just way too warm. Even now, I got some great video and was capable to delight in the day fully.  At some issue, I suppose I will modify to the warmth a minor superior.  Until eventually then, I will just curl up into a ball each now and then and whine piteously – normally by way of my site.   ?

Luckily, some clouds rolled in afterwards in the afternoon and a amazing breeze kicked up.  It was refreshing, but the wind pulled the bow absent from the sand bar, leaving some of my ship mates not able to get to the boat’s boarding later on.  Not to fear even though – the (inebriated) crew before long jumped in the water, grabbed the anchor rope and pulled us back again into the shallows.

Clouds and wind rolling in.  Boat previously drifting from sand bar…..

Our fearless crew pulling the drifting boat back to the sandbar……

We motored again to the dock devoid of incident and loaded up into vehicles, bikes and jeepneys for the experience back again to Dumaguete.  The experience again for me was variety of a ache as I was very fatigued and sunburned and suicidal askals (wild pet dogs) held on jumping in entrance of my motorcycle.  Phew.  Arriving house, I took a shower, collapsed into mattress and took a nice tiny nap.
