CAUTION: Cancellations of PAL Flights

Airbus in the mud

Saturday early morning an Airbus A319 of Cebu Pacific Air obtained stuck in mud at the edge of the runaway at the Butuan Bancasi Airport (BXU/RPME).

Flight 5J-220 failed to take off mainly because its entrance wheel received caught in the soggy floor at the edge of the runway. All 106 crew and travellers have been protected and have been transferred to the terminal. All flights to and from Butuan ended up cancelled as the airplane obstructed the runway and experienced but to be removed. The airport listed here handles at minimum 6 domestic incoming and outgoing flights day by day.

This variety of incident comes about really typically in the Philippines. Why?

  1. Airports in the Philippines normally do not have taxiways. The aircraft has to taxi on the runway and then change at the conclude of the concrete.
  2. A regular runway is 45 m huge, has on both equally sides a shoulder of 7 m 50 and on both equally finishes an overrun of 300 m. Runways in the Philippines are only 30 to 32 m vast and do have neither shoulder nor overrun.
  3. Butuan (BXU/RPME) is known to be the muddiest airport in the Philippines.

And then, quite a few pilots have only 200 hours on Cessna 152 and  10 hrs on a Piper Seneca when they enroll for Airbus schooling. The A319 and A320 are acknowledged to be a little bit tough to manage on ground, especially when the runway is wet.  Experience is definitely wanted.

By the way, have a glimpse on our flight status page and comply with the birds. You will be astonished to see what humorous pattern they fly above the Philippines.

The 100 passenger have not been amused to be stuck at Butuan’s airport instead of arriving in Cebu.
