Ferdinand Blumentritt born on September 10, 1853, in Litoměřice (Czech Republic), was a trainer and a close close friend of José Rizal.
Blumentritt became one particular of Rizal’s closest confidants even though they satisfied only once. He translated the latter’s first guide, Noli Me Tangere, into German and wrote the preface to Rizal’s second guide, El filibusterismo, whilst he was towards its publication
Fascinating to know is that Blumentritt wrote expansively about the Philippines, although he in no way visited the islands.
