Andrés Bonifacio y de Castro (November 30, 1863 – Could 10, 1897) was a Filipino nationalist and innovative. He was a founder of, and afterwards the supreme leader of, the Katipunan movement which sought the independence of the Philippines from Spanish colonial rule and begun the Philippine Revolution. He is regarded a de facto nationwide hero of the Philippines. Bonifacio is also deemed by some Filipino historians to be the very first president of the Philippines, but he is not formally regarded as this sort of.

The Katipunan was a Philippine revolutionary society established by anti-Spanish Filipinos in Manila in 1892, whose principal aim was to acquire independence from Spain by means of revolution. 

The term “katipunan”, virtually meaning ‘association’, comes from the root term “tipon”, a Tagalog word, that means “society” or “gather together”. Its formal revolutionary title is: Kataas-taasan, Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng~ mg~á Anak ng~ Bayan (English: Best and Most Honorable Society of the Kids of the Nation). The Katipunan is also acknowledged by its acronym, K.K.K..
