Diving & Flying - be cautious, even on short flights

Diving & Traveling – be careful, even on quick flights

Diving & Traveling do not match. Soon after 2 dives down to 25 meters highest, you should not fly all through the next 18 several hours. This basic safety notice is recognized by every single diver.

The Diving portion of Diving & Traveling

At sea amount, the air that surrounds us presses down on our bodies at 14.5 pounds per sq. inch. The deeper you dive, the increased the tension of the drinking water pushing down on you. For each and every 33 feet (10.06 meters) you go down, the pressure will increase by 14.5 psi. At 66 feet (20.12 meters) you already have a tension of 43.5 psi or about 3.02 bar.

PADI obviously states:

Traveling after Diving Recommendations For Dives inside the No-Decompression Limits

  • Solitary Dives: A least preflight floor interval of 12 hours is proposed.
  • Repetitive Dives and/or Multi-Day Dives: A least preflight area interval of 18 hours is recommended.

Decompression sickness (DCS also recognised as divers’ ailment, the bends or caisson ailment) describes a issue arising from dissolved gases coming out of remedy into bubbles inside of the entire body on depressurisation. DCS most typically refers to troubles arising from underwater diving decompression (i.e., during ascent), but might be skilled in other depressurisation functions like flying at large altitude.

This means that for the duration of this shorter flight you do not have the typical 14.5 psi air pressure on sea stage, but only about 10 psi.  This modest difference makes of your 20 meter / 66 feet a deeper dive of 23 meters or 75 feet, if you flew promptly.

There is no danger! But if you had been further down (e.g. 40 meters / 131 toes, then you need to not fly within the future 18 several hours.

Fortunately for the divers, the flight agenda is awfully early in the early morning. The aircraft leaves Cebu at 06:10 a.m. The return flight from Camiguin usually takes off at 07:20 a.m. So you can properly dive right until noon or even right until early afternoon the day before flying. We do not endorse evening diving the working day prior to flying.

There is no dilemma to dive just immediately after arrival. The short flight isn’t exhausting.
